This is encouraging news for all AMD fans; whilst it's fair to say that the upstart chipmaker has been on the back foot compared to Intel recently due to the initial problems, and seemingly endless delays, to its 65nm quad-core Opteron (Barcelona) processors, if it really get a 45nm Opteron into production this year it could once again lead in performance/power consumption tests. The new Opteron family is called 'Shanghai' so expect to hear that in the news over the coming months.
Interesting times lie ahead...
