There aren't many medium sized companies these days that don't
already have a multitude of existing systems and piles of data.
Any new system will invariably require a migration of data from
existing systems. This can be purely standing data, such as product
migration, or it can include historical data too, such as details
of sales transactions. The average data warehouse
will have both standing and historical data but further complications
will arise over time as a result of changes in standing data.
Therefore we have devised a method for planning, building and running
data migrations, encompassing:
- Mapping Specification and Verification
- Data extraction
- Data conversion
- Data mapping, cleansing and transformation
- Data validation and verification
- Bulk and incremental data loading
We also have experience of many techniques needed for a successful
data migration of a significantly sized system (e.g. millions to
billions of transactions):
- Fast processing programs written in C/Pro*C
- Array processing
- Parallel processing
- High performance SMP sort packages (e.g. syncsort and cosort)
- SQL*loader tuning (a.k.a. "go faster" parameters)
- Change data capture

Data migration is one of Veriton's core competencies. We also have
software to manage and control the process along with a Product
that converts data from EBCDIC to ASCII (for migrating data from
mainframe or AS/400 to UNIX).
If you'd like to know more, whether your project is at the feasibility
stage, or if you've met problems with a migration project then please
give us a call.
